Projects In Knowledge is committed to protecting the privacy and confidentiality of visitors to our Web site. About this Privacy Policy is our Web site for physicians and allied health care professionals, although it is open to non-professionals as well. The purpose of is to provide continuing medical education for healthcare professionals, and is intended for use only by a licensed healthcare professional.

Projects In Knowledge is the name we use to refer to our entire company, even though our formal corporate name is Projects In Knowledge, Inc. Information We Collect from Unregistered Visitors

Information We Collect When You Register
Customers registering on our Web site for continuing medical education activities we provide are asked to provide us with identifying information, such as name, contact information, and other identifying information. On our registration screens, we clearly label which information is required for registration, and which information is optional and may be given at your discretion.

On our registration screens you will also find a “Burning Question” field. Submission of a “Burning Question” is completely voluntary. By submitting a “Burning Question,” you grant Projects In Knowledge the right to share it with faculty to consider as they prepare their continuing medical education presentations.

When you are using a listserve—or member-only discussion board— on our Web site, you are posting a message and your user name, which is available for all registered members to see. You should not post any information to our listserves you want to keep private. It is a condition of our Web site that when participating in a listserve, you do not:

Use of Cookies

Uses We Make of Information
In this section of our privacy policy, we identify the ways we may use information about you that we have collected.

Aggregate Data
We create aggregate data about visitors to our Web site for activity development and improvement. We also use it for market analysis. We may provide information from our Web site in aggregate form, with identifying information removed, to third parties. For example, we may tell a third party what percentage of our registered users reside in a particular geographical area. When aggregated information is provided, we pool it from many individual records and strip it of any data that could be used to identify an individual before it is used. Projects In Knowledge does not sell any user data to any third party for commercial purposes.

In this section of our privacy policy, we discuss the security measures we take to protect information that we have collected about you.

General Policies
We have implemented technology and security policies, rules and other measures to protect the personal data that we have under our control from unauthorized access, improper use, alteration, unlawful or accidental destruction, and accidental loss. We also protect your information by requiring that all our employees and others who have access to or are associated with the processing of your data respect your confidentiality. In addition, we have appropriate security measures in place in our physical facilities to protect against the loss or misuse of information at our site that we have collected from you.

Projects In Knowledge Employees
Projects In Knowledge employees are required to keep customer information private, as a condition of their employment with the company. Only selected, authorized Projects In Knowledge employees are permitted to access your registration information.
Employees are required to sign a confidentiality agreement. All employees and contractors must abide by our privacy policy, and those who violate that policy are subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of their employment and legal action.

Standard first-line chemotherapy for advanced non-€“small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) typically results in survival of less than 1 year. The addition of an antiangiogenic agent to chemotherapy, or first-line monotherapy with a targeted agent, is not an option. In the fourth chapter of the Living Medical eTextbook, NSCLC Edition, Dr. David Spigel discusses various pathways that are being targeted by emerging agents for the treatment of advanced NSCLC and the progress of the drugs in development.

Chapter 3 - Approved Targeted Agents for NSCLC

The introduction of targeted agents has changed the way oncologists treat advanced non-€“small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Small molecules targeting the kinase activity of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), and anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) and an antiangiogenic monoclonal antibody to vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), have all been approved for use in NSCLC. Dr. Suresh Ramalingam discusses the studies leading to the approval of these targeted agents in Chapter 3 of the Living Medical eTextbook, NSCLC Edition. In addition, new roles for EGFR inhibitors and new safety data for an angiogenesis inhibitor will be discussed.

Chapter 2 - New Ways of Looking at Chemotherapy

New and emerging clinical data are changing the way oncologists look at chemotherapy for the treatment of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). While chemotherapy had previously been limited to treatment of advanced, unresectable NSCLC, a growing body of evidence supports the use of chemotherapy in the settings of adjuvant therapy for resected early disease, chemoradiation for locally advanced disease, and maintenance therapy for patients with advanced disease who respond to first-line chemotherapy. Chapter 1 - NSCLC Screening, Staging, and the Role of Histology and Biomarkers in Personalized Treatment Selection

The Living Medical eTextbook: NSCLC Edition is an interactive resource that will provide a comprehensive review of topics related to the diagnosis and management of patients with non-€“small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). In Chapter 1, Mark Socinski, MD, will review results from recent screening trials for individuals at risk for NSCLC, as well as methods for imaging and staging tumors. In addition, the increasing role of histology and biomarkers in the selection of therapy for individual patients will be discussed.

The goal of these CME/CE activities is to discuss the diagnosis, staging, and management of NSCLC in order to improve clinical outcomes.

This CME/CE program is intended for oncologists, radiation oncologists, interventional radiologists, pathologists, interventional pulmonologists, family practice/primary care physicians, nurses, and physician assistants involved in the management, treatment, and care of patients with NSCLC.

  • Describe new data on screening for NSCLC and implications for patients.

  • Analyze the impact of staging, histology, and molecular biomarkers on disease prognosis and on the development of personalized treatment strategies.

  • Discuss recent data on chemotherapeutic drugs as maintenance therapy, as adjuvant therapy, and in chemoradiation regimens.

  • Evaluate the role of currently available targeted agents and how best to incorporate them in treatment regimens.

  • Assess the underlying molecular genetic and immunologic pathways that serve as targets for emerging agents, as well as data supporting their use.
